We are the Johnson County Democratic Women, North and South

We are sister organizations, working together to engage women in politics and help get Democrats in Johnson County elected.

North ZOOM Meeting

Thursday February 2, 2023

Come at 6:00 to socialize or at 6:30 for the meeting.

This meeting is hybrid. Either join us at the JoCo Dems office or on Zoom.

Special Guest: Representative Jerry Stogsdill

We welcome Jerry Stogsdill, Kansas House Representative from District 21.  He was with us last fall to give us a rundown of the upcoming legislative session, and will join us again in February to update us on the first month.
Jerry served in active and reserve service to the US Navy for 13 years.  He has experience in teaching and has been an advocate for education.  He is an entrepreneur, businessman, and has owned two small businesses.  His list of organization leaderships is extensive and impressive, including KNEA, Scientific Education Partnerships, K-10 Corridor Development, and Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.
Representative Stogsdill is busy working on our behalf at the capitol, and if his schedule has conflicts, we will hear from Becky Fast.  Becky is our newly re-elected Johnson County Commissioner, ready to serve her second four -year term.
Becky has experience as an elementary school teacher and graduate instructor at Washburn University. She earned master’s degrees in public administration and social work, and continued her career as a public policy analyst regarding services to older adults and persons with disabilities.  She has worked with families and veterans as a mental health provider.  She was director of constituent services for Congressman Dennis Moore. She has served on the Roeland Park City Council, and as City Council president.  She has been involved in the community in many ways, continues now as county commissioner, and will speak about housing and mental health.

Kaur is a freshman at the University of Kansas majoring in Political Science and minoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies on the pre-law track in the Honors program.

Before starting college, Kaur was deeply involved in youth activism and involvement in local government. She served as the two-time co-chair of the Olathe Teen Council and interned in the City Manager’s Office at the City of Olathe her senior year.

Johnson County Election Maps

Do you like maps? Do you like knowing the lay of the political landscape? Johnson County Election Office has online maps of the new  Kansas House, and Senate Districts, County Commission, City Wards and Precincts, and  State Board of Education. As of this writing the online map of US Congressional District 3 has not yet been updated. You can order printed maps for a fee, but they will send you a PDF of any one precinct for free. One caveat, the maps stop at the JOCO border so if your House or Senate district extends into other counties, you will only see the JOCO part.

Don’t know your precinct? You can find it and all your voting districts here. You can also check your voting history.

A Word from Your JCDW South President

Lovely time at the January meeting.  As it was our first meeting of the year, elections were held. I’m thrilled to say we have some fantastic women on the board and we’ve added Anh Rongish as Communications.  Thank you Anh!

Jeanna Repass was our guest and we discussed her intention to stay in the fray with us and she said she’s running for the Chair of the Kansas Democratic Party – KDP!  Oh My!  We also had a Q&A session on what we can do better, and how we can help fellow Kansans.

Cassie Woolworth

President, JCDW South
