UPDATE: We will now be meeting at
Kc daiquiri and bistro..8725 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66212
or on Zoom.
Special Guests: Melissa Diehl and Kristy Childs from Veronica’s Voice
We will have a combined North and South meeting on November 17. We will hear from Veronica’s Voice, an organization that helps women leave a life of sexual exploitation. They have several programs, which include a residential program, men’s education, and policy advocacy. They also have a cottage industry, A Just Cause, that sells soaps, lotions, candles, etc. They will bring some items for us to purchase, so plan to get some Christmas and Hanukkah presents! It will be a hybrid meeting, and you can order items if you attend via Zoom.
Melissa Diehl is the Community Liaison of Veronica’s Voice. She loves to connect with survivors on a personal level, and help empower and encourage them as they embark upon their own journeys to freedom. She became interested in volunteering with Veronica’s Voice as she was already a staunch human rights activist within our city, so this was a natural progression for her, one that would become especially dear to her, as she holds the same name as these women Veronica’s Voice assists: Survivor. Melissa looks forward to engaging within our community moving forward as we work together to free others from human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.
November 8th Election: Be Sure to Vote — and Vote Early!
The Johnson County Democratic Party has done a fantastic job of compiling everything you need to know about the November 8th election from how to vote to your list of candidates. Their election guide contains your complete list of candidates plus a QR code you can scan to find a sample ballot.
VOTE EARLY! People who vote early are more likely to cast their vote, which is why you’re going to hear a lot of politicians asking you to step up to the polls NOW rather than later. The simple fact is that things come up on election day. Little things like a rough time at work … you meant to get to the polls but just didn’t … and big things like an illness or accident or other personal tragedy. People are prone to think “Yes, but it won’t happen to me.” Yet it will happen to someone, every year, and this could be your year. To make sure it isn’t, all you have to do is head over to the polls today.
Advance voting is going on right now, both by mail and in-person. Learn more at the Johnson County Election Office.
Upcoming Board Elections (South)
Every year in January, Johnson County Democratic Women South holds elections for half of its board positions. In odd yeras (January 2023),we will hold the election for President, VP of Communications, VP of Fundraising, and Secretary. These elections are open to voting members of JCDW South and JCDW North, and any member who identifies as a female may be nominated. These nominations can be made in advance or from the floor.
We invite and encourage you to run for one of these offices. One of our missions at JCDW is to train women for future leadership roles, especially through our board positions. Being on the board will give you the opportunity to set the tone for this group, make great friends, and give back to your democratic community.
If you are interested in running for a board position, email us at jcdwsouth@gmail.com.
About Us
Johnson County Democratic Women North and South are part of the Kansas Federation of Democratic Women, which is part of the National Federation of Democratic Women.
Our mission is to empower women to run for office and to support the election of like-minded Democrats to state and local office. We do this through education and training, but especially through donations to qualified candidates. Your financial donation to either of our organizations will go directly to Democratic candidates running in Johnson County.
